2011 Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus Concept

Submitted by on December 6, 2011 – 2:20 pmNo Comment

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-Cell Plus Concept was officially introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show with an eye towards production sometime in 2014. The electric Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus concept carries the same exterior and interior dimensions as that of the standard B-Class, including the five-seat interior lay-out.

Equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack from Deutsche ACCUmotive (a joint venture between Daimler and Evonik), the Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus boasts a battery-only range of up to 62 miles. A 67-horsepower, 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gas engine handles range-extending duties to give the Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus a total range of 373 miles.

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus’s electric drive system generates up to 100 kW (136 hp). At low speeds, the 1.0-liter engine charges the battery via a generator. At high speeds, the three-cylinder gasser assists the vehicle’s electric drive in propelling the Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus down the road. Essentially, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus operates much like the Chevrolet Volt.

Mercedes-Benz says the Mercedes-Benz B-Class E-CELL Plus scoots from 0 to 62 miles per hour in approximately 11 seconds and can hit a top speed of 93 mph. M-B claims both of those marks are attainable in either battery-only or range-extended mode.
